Oley Valley Neddlework
Oley, Berks County, Pennsylvania Origin, Dated 1786

Silk Thread on Linen Homespun…an Exceptional Berks County Sampler…1786 Reading School…this is the earliest known work in this Format from the Historic Oley Valley. Susanna Messersmith was born in Oley and is buried there…Having accomplished this needlework at the age of fifteen…Susanna was taught in Reading and obviously was influenced by the English Style popular at the time in larger cities such as Philadelphia only fifty miles to the East… Wonderful Brilliant Color and the early date make this needlework a "Jewel" of a Survivor…Conserved on an Acid Free Board and placed in an appropriately styled reproduction Frame…Sight Size 16 3/4" High by 12 1/2" Wide…Frame Size 20" High by 15 3/4" Wide …Additional Family Linage available upon request.

Miniature American Sampler
Possible New Jersey Origin, Dated 1820

Silk on Linen Homespun….Diminutive in size, this sampler was stitched by Mary Morris possibly of Morristown, Morris County, New Jersey which was settled in 1715 by the English…There is a simple stitched alphabet ending with three Hearts over a stylized Stag with a Tree on either side… The bottom portion reveals her identity " Mary Morris aged 8..12 September 1820 "…the last digit "0" is place under the " 182 " for lack of space…The entire Sampler alternates with Blue and Brown Threads... both Naïve and Charming!!! Frame Size...5 7/8" Square..Sight Size…3 1/4" Square.

Philadelphia Quaker Sampler
Pennsylvania Origin, 1st Quarter of the 19th Century

Homespun Ground with Silk Threads…An Exceptional Philadelphia Quaker Sampler…Sarah Lentz was the Daughter of Jacob and Ann (Sheetz) Lentz, Born in Chestnut Hill, Philadelphia on September 29, 1807 and died in Doylestown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania on September 3, 1882… She completed this Sampler in her 10th Year of Life in 1817…she was the wife of John Radelle (?) of Montgomery County…the sampler had belonged to her Daughter at the time this information was written on the original back paper…This sampler reflects many Quaker motifs, including butterflies', Floral Sprigs', Stags within the Lawn, and the usual Lions', plus the familiar Stepped Ground often associated with Needlework of Philadelphia…Superb Size,  Color, and Format, in an uncompromising Condition…Sight Size-- Height 15 1/2" by 19" Wide..Frame Size-- Height 18 1/2" by 22" Wide.

Ann Williams' Needlework 1824
English, First Quarter of the 19th Century

Linen and Silks. Born in 1814, Ann Williams completed this Sampler in 1824 at Ten Years Old…The Center proverbial motif is surrounded by numerous floral accomplishments in Silk with a pair of Birds, a nest and five eggs…all portrayed in the lower righthand corner… A Beautiful and difficult needlework endeavor of this early time period…The Condition is very acceptable overall with some light staining and fading over the years…Frame Size Ht 21 3/8" Width 18"  Sight Size Ht 15 1/2" Width 12 1/2".

Oley Valley Needlework
Pennsylvania, Circa 1840-60

Wool.. Unsigned Sampler from the"Sarah Boone School" of the Oley Valley with a Huge Basket of Flowers, accompanied by two additional Bouquets. The Border is a pleasing combination of Carnations and Strawberries. Sarah traveled throughout the Valley teaching young girls her style of needlework during the years from 1840-1860….Wonderful color and format… Professionaly conserved and framed.  View-24 1/2" H x 25" W…Frame 28 1/2" x 29" W.
